Supports Nisly

Editor, Times-Union:
In 2010, I ran for the Wisconsin State Senate and defeated the sitting Democratic Majority Leader to help Republicans regain control of the chamber. I am proud to say I helped Governor Scott Walker pass his key collective bargaining reforms in Wisconsin.
Another one of our major goals was to establish legal concealed carry (CCW) for Wisconsinites, and it was my honor to be lead sponsor of the bill which achieved this. We were so effective enacting reforms, the Democrats pursued recall challenges to Governor Walker and several legislators, including myself.
At that same time, multiple members of my family endured serious setbacks in their health, and I decided to resign from the Wisconsin State Senate. I did this confident I would have won my recall election, and Republicans did hold the seat when the votes were tallied.
I moved to Warsaw to be closer to my family. Naturally, I began to follow Indiana politics. I have recently decided to support Curt Nisly in his bid for the Republican nomination in House District 22.
Nisly is a conservative who will be an excellent fit for this Kosciusko County and Elkhart County district. Nisly has called for HJR3, the Marriage Amendment, to be sent to the voters as written this fall. This puts Nisly in good company among area legislators such as Rep. David Wolkins, Rep. Tim Harmon and Sen. Ryan Mishler.
Nisly supports local control of education, and he would have supported HEA 1427, the pause to reconsider Common Core in 2013. Again, this was the same position taken by Rep. Wolkins, Rep. Harmon and Sen. Mishler.
Nisly believes church outreach ministries must remain free from excessive government regulation. He opposes legislation such as HB 1036 which would dictate to church day care centers activity levels and food selections. Nisly stands with Rep. Wolkins and Rep. Harman, who voted against HB 1036.
What of Nisly’s opponent, incumbent Rep. Rebecca Kubacki? On all three of these issues, Rep. Kubacki is standing far removed from the consensus of north-central Indiana conservatives.
Rep. Kubacki voted to weaken the Marriage Amendment last week, and then voted against the weak version of the bill. Rep. Kubacki also voted for immediate implementation of Common Core in 2013.
Finally, Rep. Kubacki not only supports excessive regulation of church outreach ministries, she is also co-author of the bill to achieve this misguided government overreach into private business.
In House District 22, the choice is clear: vote for Curt Nisly for State Representative on May 6!
