Editor, Times-Union: Kosciusko County Republican primary voters have a terrific choice for County Council this year. Six candidates are running for three seats.
I am especially impressed with two of them. Neither have ever held elective office, but both should be elected this year. Sean Boylan, has a young family, and is a local businessman. He knows what it takes to successfully run a business, and have a profit at the bottom line. He has served us well on the Board of Zoning Appeals. It is obvious by his political interviews, that he has a major concern for our county and its future.
My other preference might be a surprise for some, since I preferred his opponent two years ago. That gentleman is Jon Fussle. Two years ago, Jon ran against Bob Conley for Kosciusko County Commissioner. I supported Mr. Conley in that election because he was, (and is), the best choice. Bob is a good Commissioner, has a fine reputation for making wise decisions in the county's behalf, and deserved re-election. If that election were to be held today, I would wholeheartedly support Conley.
However, Jon Fussle is a good citizen. He too is married, and he and his wife Kayte, are expecting their first child later this year. Jon is a licensed pilot, and also a small business owner. Jon has been spearheading a movement throughout the county, to clean up debris tossed on the roadway by careless drivers. Several weekends over the past few months, he and his crews have been working tirelessly, without pay, in this endeavor.
There is an interesting, important, and moving story about Jon that is not well known. Jon is a man with a big heart, and great compassion. After the devastating earthquake in Haiti two years ago, Jon flew twenty-six missions into that country, many times alone. He delivered much needed food and medical supplies for the victims there. This sometimes facing very dangerous conditions. To many in that country, Jon is a hero.
So here we have two very fine young men that have already endured many of life's experiences. These two men have a positive vision for Kosciusko County. I respectively recommend that Kosciusko County Republican voters select these two men to represent us on the November ballot for County council. They have a conservative perspective, they have fresh ideas, and they love this community. After all these years, isn't time for some new faces in the Court House.
