Sunday Crash With Semi Tractor-Trailer Kills Father, Son

A Goshen man and his 10-year-old son died in the early morning hours Sunday after colliding with a semi on U.S. 30.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis said first responders were dispatched at 2:08 a.m. Sunday to the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 875W in Etna Township for a two-vehicle collision. Preliminary results of the ongoing investigation by the KCSO Fatal Team indicates a 2011 Mazda, driven by Marlin Fuentes Sr., 32, of Goshen, was traveling south on CR 875W, approaching U.S. 30.
A semi, driven by Paul Banks, 44, of Bridgman, Mich., was traveling west on U.S. 30, approaching the CR 875W intersection, when the Fuentes failed to yield.
The semi struck the driver’s side door of the Mazda, killing Fuentes and 10-year-old Marlin Fuentes Jr. upon impact.
Banks was uninjured.
Responding agencies included KCSO, Etna Green and Atwood fire departments, Lutheran EMS and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
