After Tommy Shaw joined the band in 1975, Styx released the best-selling albums "Equinox," "Crystal Ball," "The Grand Illusion," "Pieces of Eight" and "Paradise Theatre." The group was ranked the most popular American band in 1979 as measured by concert ticket sales, radio airplay and record sales.
In recent years, constant touring, along with the use of their quirky 1981 hit single "Mister Roboto," has exposed Styx to an entire new generation of fans.
