Sturtsman's No-No Opens Squire Baseball Season

Posted
FORT WAYNE – Sophomore Hayes Sturtsman tossed a five-inning no-hitter in Manchester’s 12-0 baseball season-opening win at Fort Wayne Wayne Wednesday.
The Squires scored four times in the opening frame, and led 7-0 after three innings. A five-run fourth inning brought the run-rule into effect, and Manchester held off Wayne from there.
On offense, Sturtsman added one hit, scored twice and drove in two runs. Janzin Cripe had a hit and scored twice, David McAtee had a single and scored three times. Bailey Ness, Zach Hill, Kane Gable, Trey McNall and Landon Tharp were each credited with a run batted in. Manchester had only three hits in the game.
“Good job by Hayes. He threw really well for the first game.” said Manchester head coach Jack Rupley. “He only threw 64 pitches.”
Regarding the Squire offense Rupley said “hopefully we learned some things about plate discipline. We struck out 10 times in the game. We have some things to work on.”
The Squares are scheduled to travel to Syracuse to take on Wawasee today.
