Students Live In The Past For A Day At WCS’s ‘Living History Museum’History came to life Feb. 28 when students from Warsaw Christian School held their first Living History Museum.

Students dressed in period costumes presented facts about the historical figure they chose to portray. Visitors moved throughout the museum to listen as students shared information as if they were the character. Additionally, visitors could ask questions of each student.

According to Jessica Turner, curriculum director, students were given project details in early January and those who volunteered to participate had two months to prepare.

Students participating included Lillian Riegal; Mary Ann Jackson; Anne Steger, Queen Victoria; Jon Swain, Abraham Lincoln; Kamaile Barros, Ka’iulani of Hawaii; Elise Swain, Pocahontas; Caden Weaver, Abraham Lincoln; Caleb Weaver, Benjamin Franklin; Kiana Alejado, Pocahontas; Rock Lambert, Michael Jordan; Jazzden Wyatt; Amelia Anders, Amelia Earhart; Lani Calizo, Paul Revere; Piper Elrod, Deborah Sampson; and Lincoln Rosswurm, Johnny Appleseed.

Three teachers also volunteered to be a part of the project. Amy Gervasi dressed as Amy Carmichael. Rebekah Pityer portrayed Mary Anna Jackson, and Amelia Serefino presented information on Katherine Switzer.

“I was impressed with the initiative that the students used to choose the person they wanted to research and portray,” Turner said. “They found their characters’ voices.”

Turner said the school will continue the Living History Museum in future years. “We have a three-year academic cycle for extra-curricular projects. Last year we held a science fair, the museum this year, and next school year we will have a Young Writer’s Contest,” she said.
