Warsaw Community High School Principal Troy Akers announced Thursday that Samuel B. Carter, Ellis Coon, Caleb J. DeBoest, John D. French, Douglas L. Powell and James E. Wynn were named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these seniors. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized. Although they will not continue in the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed in the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking qualifying tests.
