Students Face 'Pot' Charges

Three Lakeview Middle School were placed under house arrest Thursday after allegedly admitting to buying or selling marijuana in the school.

Warsaw police were called to the school Thursday morning after officials received a letter Wednesday stating that one of the teens was in possession of marijuana.

Douglas Dean Smith, 14, of Argonne Road, Warsaw, told school officials and police that he and Marco Antonio Rolon, 13, of Seventh Street, Winona Lake, bought the marijuana from Ronald Raymond Felton, 13, of Ind. 14W, Silver Lake.

All three were charged with dealing marijuana and Smith, who still had the plastic bag containing the marijuana, was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Felton reportedly bought the marijuana from another teen. However, that suspect's mother would not allow police to question him. Parents of the other teens signed waivers of their sons' Miranda rights.

Felton said that he paid $2 for the plastic bag of marijuana from the unnamed suspect and sold part of it to Smith for $1 and part of it to Rolon for $2. Smith reportedly kept all of the marijuana, though, because Rolon was afraid to have it with him at school. The first transaction allegedly occurred in the school library and the second in the school cafeteria.

Information regarding the school's disciplinary action of the teens was not available.

The house arrests remain in place until the probation department completes necessary paperwork on the teens.
