Students Elected to Honor Society

Posted
BLOOMINGTON – The Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences recently announced the following local students have been invited to join Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States.

They are: Alexis Howard, of Bourbon, and Andrew Morris, of Warsaw.

Election to Phi Beta Kappa is based solely on academic achievement and is limited to students majoring in liberal arts and sciences. Only about 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters; among these elite institutions, only about 10 percent of arts and sciences students qualify for election to Phi Beta Kappa.

Nationwide, only about 1 percent of all college seniors are invited to join Phi Beta Kappa each year.

Indiana University's chapter, Gamma of Indiana, was founded in 1911. Those students inducted by Gamma of Indiana this year join 17 U.S. Presidents, 38 U.S. Supreme Court Justices and 136 Nobel laureates as members of Phi Beta Kappa.
