Posted
The Class Act Dance Troupe will present an entirely student-choreographed showcase at Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. to raise funds for a local charity, The Community Closet.
Admission to the concert is $5 or any greater donation. Tickets are available at the door before the performance, at Debra Collier’s School of Dance at 574-267-7055 or online at collierdance.com
Class Act Dance Troupe is a nonprofit organization that provides students with additional opportunities to use their dance training and develop their abilities through the creative outlets of performance events and community involvement, while fostering self-esteem, confidence and a sense of achievement. The troupe performs year-round throughout the Warsaw area spreading an appreciation for the art of dance throughout the community, according to a press release from the schoo;.
“Not only does this give the students an opportunity to grow as artists, work with their peers in a new way, and put in the time and energy needed to create pieces they are proud of, but it is also a great way for them to realize how they can use dance to help their community,” said CADT showcase coordinator Sarah Mills. “We’ve chosen the Community Closet, based out of the First United Methodist Church downtown, as our charity, which has been helping those in our community for about 5-1/2 years now.”
The Community Closet is a charitable organization that provides those in need with the items they need most that are not covered by food stamps or other government assistance. Open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month when restocking occurs), the Community Closet supplies families with items like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, razors and other toiletries, along with cleaning supplies, baby supplies, laundry detergent and toilet paper.
Mills said, “Among many other things, the Community Closet offers what we all too often take for granted. Helping about 120 families in our community each week, we are thrilled to be raising funds for this organization through our Student Choreography Showcase. With a variety of diverse works from our students, you will not be disappointed. Please come and help support the dancers of Class Act Dance Troupe and The Community Closet.”
