Studebaker Honored; Fair Schedule Listed

Posted
Not one for the spotlight, Sunday saw Roger Studebaker honored for his heroics.

It was March 21, around 10 a.m., Studebaker was at the CenturyLink building in downtown Warsaw when he heard a cry for help coming from the stairwell.

Studebaker raced up three flights of stairs to offices rented out by Lake City Bank.

There he found a 44-year-old man, face down and unconscious.

Studebaker began CPR until EMS arrived.

Studebaker, who has been with what is now CenturyLink for 41 years and works as a communications technician, received CPR training through work.

When first responders arrived, they were able to stabilize the man.

Later, Studebaker found out that the man had a heart condition that led to a heart attack. First responders also told him that had he not performed CPR, that man would have died.

“He’s a very humble individual,” said John Hanna, area plant supervisor for CenturyLink.

“I was right behind him,” said Hanna. “I don’t think he even realized he raced up three flights of stairs.”

“I really don’t remember it,” said Studebaker of getting on the scene.

Studebaker also deflected any talk of being a hero.

“I just think I did what anyone else would have done,” said Studebaker.

As a token of appreciation, Hanna, along with Jack Moore from CenturyLink, presented Studebaker a check for $500 to donate to either the Goat Club or Goat Committee at the fair.

Studebaker, along with his wife Sue, have been involved with the goat barn at the fair for more than 30 years.
