Strong Winds Cause Damage Across County

Posted
No serious damage or injuries were reported because of severe weather Tuesday morning.

According to Mike Sabones, meteorologist in charge with the Northern Indiana Weather Forecast Office, winds reached 50 miles per hour, but there were no signs of any tornado activity in Kosciusko County.

That was despite a tornado warning for several counties, including Kosciusko.

Sabones said Tuesday's weather was a more organized weather occurrence while Sunday's weather, which caused another tornado warning, was more isolated.

Sabones said a large low-pressure system came in through the plains and mixed with a cold front, producing Tuesday's high winds and storms.

County first responders were kept busy during Tuesday morning's storms.

While no major accidents, damages or injuries were reported to county dispatch, there were several calls of trees and power lines down throughout the county.

There were at least 10 documented incidents through dispatch of either power lines being pinched, downed or trees blocking a roadway.

Areas affected included Syracuse, Barbee Lake, Warsaw and areas in Northern Kosciusko County.

Warsaw Police Department also responded to a call of a stoplight being out on Lake City Highway.

The weather for the rest of this week is expected to be more mild with lower temperatures.
