Stringed Instrument Classes to be Offered to Warsaw Students
Posted
Staff Report-
An orchestral strings program is being implemented into the curriculum of Warsaw Community Schools for the 2012-13 school year.
A committee of community members and Warsaw Community School staff met regularly for a year to discuss starting a strings program, starting in the sixth grade through the 12th grade.
The course being offered at the high school will be open to any student wanting to learn to play violin, viola, cello or double bass.
This course is also open to students who can currently play an orchestral string instrument.
Strings classes also are being offered at both middle schools. The middle school will each offer two strings classes, dividing the students into a beginner class, and for students that already can play a string instrument.
Sixth-grade students will have the opportunity to learn a string or a band instrument.
As part of the strings initiative, band is being offered to sixth-grade students for the first time in more than a decade. These classes will be offered before the school day in a “zero” period class. The strings class will take place at Lakeview Middle School and the band class will be at the high school.
Transportation for this class is currently being finalized, and the details will be shared at a later date.
If your child is interested in this new course offering, don’t hesitate to speak with their guidance counselor or contact the music office at the high school at 574-371-5099.
