SILVER LAKE - Streets, fire lanes and sidewalks were the main topics of discussion at the Silver Lake Town Council meeting Tuesday night.
Money was allocated for paving and concrete work to improve streets and sidewalks in the town.
Funds previously encumbered for paving projects, plus $1,667 added to cover updated quotes, will be used to pave alleys from the west corner of Kermit Street to Portland Street and from the top of Schutt Street to Myrtle Glen. Once the alleys are paved, all the streets in Silver Lake will be paved.
Two fire lanes as well as parking areas at two vacuum houses that are part of the sewer system will be paved in a second paving project approved Tuesday night. The total costs for that project equals $4,945.
Sidewalk work that started last month will continue this month after the council approved $23,080 to finish the project. As sidewalks were repaired last month, several areas were discovered where sidewalks were missing or in dire disrepair. The funds were approved Tuesday night to repair and replace several of the areas discovered.
In other business, the council:
Heard a report from town marshal Craig Hollopeter, who commended the reserve officers and the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department for helping make Silver Lake Days a success.
