Story Emporium To Open In Warsaw Library TuesdayWarsaw Public Library will be home to a new used book store, sponsored by Friends of the Warsaw Community Public Library and managed by Friends volunteers.
The book store, called Story Emporium, officially will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Story Emporium was started by Friends of the Library members Merri Bottorff and Carol Noll, who had a dream that working at a book store would be nice, said Robin Fosnaugh, administrative assistant at WCPL. It was started last spring, and, along the way, there were other people involved.
In the interium of the store opening, those involved have had training, fixed up the room designated for Story Emporium and wrote procedures for the store.
It is located on the lower level of the library and to the left of the circulation desk. The store will have an awning over the room, said Fosnaugh.
The bookstore will provide an array of quality used books of all genres, music CDs, DVDs and other materials at affordable prices, according to a news release about Story Emporium.
“Friends is eager to raise community awareness of a clean, friendly, organized, engaging environment that is welcoming and encourages reading, listening, gathering and sharing while selecting favorite items to purchase,” the release states.
Money from sales will go back to the library, said Fosnaugh. Friends of the Library have supplied things such as sewing machines and equipment for children’s games. They also plan on donating a large amount of money for carpeting for one of the library’s meeting rooms.
Fosnaugh said children’s hardbacks will be $1; children’s paperbacks, 50 cents; children’s DVDs, CDs and audio books, $1; adult hardbacks, $1.50; adult paperbacks, 75 cents; adult DVDs and audio books, $1.50; adult CDs, $1; and video games will be $5.
Fosnaugh said at the moment, Story Emporium has more inventory than Friends of the Library know what to do with. Story Emporium will be supplied with discarded items from the library and from donations.
“Story Emporium does not accept donations, however, the library will accept clean gently used books that may be processed into the bookstore inventory,” the release said.
Fosnaugh said anyone who wants to donate to the library can leave things at the circulation desk. The library will go through any donations, and the library will get things it believes it needs and will give Story Emporium whatever it doesn’t take. Such things the library looks for are extremely popular items the library needs more copies of.
Story Emporium will be open about eight days a month with varying days and hours.
The monthly hours are the first and third Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; first and third Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m.; second and fourth Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.; second and fourth Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Fosnaugh.
Bookmarks are available with the information, according to the release. Each month the days and hours will be posted on the sign outside the door.
