A line of storms with high winds caused damage around Kosciusko County this morning.
Central dispatch received several calls of storm-related damage.
A barn owned by Creighton Bros. along CR 950W was destroyed.According to Ron Truex, 500,000 chickens were stored inside the barn. Though none of the chickens were killed, Truex said they are trying to find a place to store the chickens.
"What we're doing right now, we're going to have to try and sell the birds," said Truex.
Truex said that he estimated the damage to be $5 million but that "may be conservative."
Trees were reported in the road near 1899 Ind. 19S and at the intersection of McKenna Road and CR 475E. Power lines were reported in the road at CR 950W, north of CR 200S.
Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director Ed Rock said that CR 950W is currently closed to traffic to allow Kosciusko County REMC to repair damaged or down power lines and poles.
Another barn was reported down at 9040 Backwater Road near North Webster.
A barn belonging to Jon and Sandi Schaeffer along CR 900W also was destroyed.
According to the Schaeffers, who spoke to Times-Union photographer Gary Nieter, it's the third time the barn has been destroyed by storms.
A home along Old 30, near CR 800W, caught fire early this morning.
Etna Green and Atwood fire department crews fought the blaze.
No further information was available this morning.
Limbs that fell on power lines caught fire around 3:10 a.m. at 8129 Wade Lane, North Webster.
REMC reported more than 2,000 homes were without power this morning.
According to meteorologist Justin Arnott, who works at the National Weather Service's North Webster station, storms began to roll through around midnight and lasted until 3 a.m.
Arnott said that winds gusted between 25 and 35 mph but did reach 40 mph in places.
Arnott said that damage in surrounding counties was minimal.
There was no evidence of any tornado activity.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the storms.
