Stoddard's Performance For Whitko Leads Roundup

NORTH MANCHESTER — Whitko senior pitcher Alex Stoddard had quite the game Wednesday at Manchester.
In the 11-0 Three Rivers Conference win, Stoddard went all seven innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.
And he wasn’t just hot on the mound.
At the plate, Stoddard was 4 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Stoddard’s performance helped the Wildcats improve to 12-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Manchester dropped to 1-10 (0-3 TRC).
Whitko is at Anderson Prep today and Manchester is at DeKalb Saturday for a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m.

Wednesday in Syracuse
The Wawasee boys golf team posted a 152-172 win over Tippecanoe Valley at South Shore Golf Club in Syracuse Wednesday. Valley’s Bryce Zimpelman had the low score, firing an even-par 36, while Wawasee was led by Luke Jackson’s 37. The win improves Wawasee to 7-1 going into Saturday’s Homestead Invitational at Fort Wayne’s Orchard Ridge Country Club, while Valley’s next meet is Saturday’s LaVille Invitational at Sprig O’Mint Golf Course in Bremen.

On the par-36 course, Whitko’s Danny Zawlocki received medalist honors with his 40. Whitko will be at Saturday’s Northfield Invitational at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash.

Plating six runs in the fourth inning, the host Manchester softball team ran away with an 11-3 Three Rivers Conference win Wednesday against Whitko. In the win, Cali Spann went 3 for 5, while Kayla Flack, Sydney Jordan and Mariah Mobley each drove in two runs. For Whitko, Jenny Brown and Sydney Lancaster each had two hits. Whitko travels to Fort Wayne Wayne today and Manchester’s next contest is Saturday’s Garrett Invitational.

Triton junior pitcher Mallorie Jennings recorded 11 strikeouts in her team’s 5-0 Northern State Conference home win over Knox Wednesday. Allowing just two hits, Jennings helped the Lady Trojans improve to 11-4 and 6-2 in the NSC. Krystal Sellers was 3 for 4 and Jennings went 3 for 3 at the plate, with both girls hitting two doubles. Triton plays its fourth game in four days today at home against the Culver Girls Academy.

Wednesday in Warsaw
At home against Concord Wednesday, the Warsaw girls tennis team’s struggles continued, falling 4-1. The loss drops Warsaw to 1-8 on the year and 1-5 in the NLC. Early on, Warsaw led the match, as Rachel Alexander won the opening set at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Wallin and Marley Smith also got a first-set victory. However, Concord rebounded to win the next two sets on each court. Warsaw did get a point from junior Jacqueline Sasso, who beat Concord’s Hailey Stiver 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Warsaw plays its fourth match in four days today at Culver Academies.

At doubles, Triton’s Marissa Ross and Holly Stogsdill won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and the No. 2 tandem of Cassie Irons and Shayla May got a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 victory. The 4-3 Lady Trojans are in Northern State Conference action today at Jimtown and Valley’s next match is Monday at Manchester, in a Three Rivers Conference clash.

The Wawasee boys track and field team wrapped up its dual meet season Wednesday in Plymouth, winning 75-57. The Northern Lakes Conference win left Wawasee with a 3-4 mark this year as the NLC Championships will be Tuesday at Warsaw. In the NLC regular season finale, Wawasee’s Adam Doll (800, 1600) and Clayton Cook (110 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles)  and J.J. Gilmer (high jump, long jump) each won two events and were also part of a winning relay.
