AKRON – Steven R. Hammond, 61, of 11442 E. CR 225S, Akron, died at 8:43 p.m. March 29, 2012, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born Aug. 26, 1950, in Rochester, to Carrol E. Jr. and Doris Nicodemus Hammond. On Dec. 23, 1976, in Akron, he married Betty Sue Rogers, who died March 16, 2007. He had worked at Fulton Industries, Rochester, for 12 years until his health began to fail in 2008. He graduated from Akron High School in 1968. He also served in the National Guard for four years. Surviving are a daughter, Tiena Carnes, Argos; two sons, Randell (and spouse Angela) Fields, Akron, and Sean Hammond, Argos; a brother, Joe Hammond, Silver Lake; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Athens Cemetery. Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. ***** Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
