ROCHESTER - Steven Lynn Shambarger, 60, of P.O. Box 702, Rochester, died unexpectedly March 16, 2009, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
He was born July 15, 1948, in Rochester, to Louis "Bob" and Betty Russell Shambarger. On March 23, 1968, in Rochester, he married Beth E. Sherbondy, who survives.
A lifetime Rochester resident, he was a 1966 Rochester High School graduate, where he was a member of the football, basketball and track teams. He also graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy of Bloomington and pursued a career as a jailer for the Fulton County Sheriff's Dept. He and his wife were owners of the local newsstand from 1991-2004. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Also surviving are a son, Craig (and spouse Carrie) Shambarger, Whitestown; a sister, Judy Sweany, Rochester; and his father, Bob Shambarger, Plymouth.
A private service will be held.
