AKRON – Steven J. Swygart, 65, of 510 E. Walnut St., Akron, died at 2:37 p.m. July 11, 2013, in Parkview Hospital at DuPont, Fort Wayne. He was born Sept. 8, 1947, in Wabash County, to Robert J. and Maxine A. Frankstine Swygart. In 1971, at United Methodist Church, Laketon, he married Jeanne A. Ice. They divorced after 27 years of marriage. Living in the Akron Community for five years, he lived in New Haven, near Fort Wayne, for 30 years. He graduated from Manchester High School, North Manchester, in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-69. After graduating from the Indianapolis School of Embalming and becoming a licensed funeral director, he worked at Bender Funeral Home, DeLaughter Funeral Home, both in North Manchester, then D.O. McComb Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, for 22 years. He was a member of Laketon American Legion and attended Akron United Methodist Church. Surviving are twin children, Tonya A. Clark, Fort Wayne, and Matt S. (and spouse Karen) Swygart, Battle Creek, Mich.; five grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn S. (and spouse Charles) Miller, Akron; and his mother, Maxine A. Swygart, Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Swygart, and a brother, Ronald E. Swygart. Services will be at noon Tuesday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, officiated by the Rev. David Eaton of Akron United Methodist Church, and with military honors by the U.S. Army and military rites by members of Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be at a later date.
