Steven Dale WeaverMENTONE – Steven Dale Weaver, 72, of Claypool, passed on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at his residence surrounded by family after many years suffering from dementia.
Steve was born on June 20, 1950, in Elkhart, to the late Dale and Rosalie Robison Weaver. He graduated from Nappanee High School in 1968. He was married on April 19, 1980, in the Etna Green Church of Christ to Teresa Flenar Weaver; she survives. Steve was a loving and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, working hard and experiencing the great outdoors.
Steve retired from a long career of 36 years with RR Donnelley & Sons in Warsaw as a binding line operator, a role for which he also developed and ran the training program. Through his work, he became an inventor and he held three patents registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Steve was a talented woodworking artist and built many beautiful pieces of furniture, toys for his grandchildren and ornate items such as mantle clocks and jewelry boxes.
In addition to woodworking, Steve enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies over the years, including hunting, bowling, riding his motorcycle, fishing, gardening and golfing. But his favorite pastimes included spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and board games like euchre and dominos, watching movies - with a particular fondness for black and white classics and action comedies, listening to country music and playing with his dog, Sparky.
He took great pride in his country home, which he helped design and build along with the help of family and friends. His favorite place to be was on the front porch swing, enjoying the view of the countryside with a cold beer or Diet Coke in his hand and his dog by his side.
After retiring from Donnelley’s, Steve enjoyed taking in the natural beauty of the western United States. He and his wife took three road trips together out west: first to Mount Rushmore and Deadwood in South Dakota; then to the Painted Desert and the Grand Canyon in Arizona; and finally to Glacier National Park in Montana, for which they were joined on their travels by their son, Justin.
Steve will be remembered most for his contagious laugh, his quiet strength and his dedication to supporting his family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Teresa Weaver, of Claypool; children: Jennifer and husband Randall Anglemyer, of Nappanee; Stephanie and husband Joe Marvel, of Bremen; Justin Weaver, of Warsaw; and Allison Weaver, of Fishers; grandchildren: Arthur Chapman III, Garrett Anglemyer, Grace Anglemyer and Jacob Marvel; brother, Roger and wife Ellen Weaver; sister, Connie Fruchey; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
Steve’s remembrance place will be in the Etna Green Cemetery, Etna Green.
