INDIANAPOLIS -ÊFormer Warsaw standout Steve Reed was named to the 1977 Silver Anniversary Team Wednesday evening at Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis in front of a sell-out 1,200 guests. This ceremony was in conjunction with the inductees for induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Reed was nominated for consideration to the team by his former assistant coach and present coach of the Warsaw Tigers, Al Rhodes.

While at Warsaw (1974-1977) Reed averaged 20.7 ppg as a junior and 25.4 ppg as a senior. Reed was also instrumental in giving Warsaw its first regional title in 39 years as he knocked down two free throws with two seconds remaining to beat Elkhart Central.

And while at Indiana State, Reed set a Missouri Valley Conference record with 239 assists during the 1978-1979 season. Reed finished his career at ISU with another conference record of 616 assists.

Among the other players comprising the Silver Anniversary team are: 1977 Mr. Basketball Ray Tolbert, former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Mark Herrmann, former co-captain of the 1981 National Champion Indiana Hoosiers Phil Isenbarger and former Purdue and Detroit Lions athlete Roosevelt Barnes.

Reed will be eligible next year to be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame as he will have been 26 years removed from high school as mandated by qualification rules.
