Steve Dzuba, 96, of Winona Lake, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Nov. 30, 2011, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.
On Aug. 8, 1915, in Endicott, N.Y., he was born to Michael and Teresa Mikalasko Dzuba. On July 18, 1942, in Janesville, Wis., he married Helen Van Doran, who survives.
He worked at Schrader Auto Parts Store, Warsaw, as an auto parts salesman for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He and his wife wintered in Mt. Dora, Fla., and lived in the Warsaw area during the summer months. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw; Knights of Columbus; and American Legion Post #49, Warsaw.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a glider pilot chief instructor for the 38th Troop Carrier Command, Laurinburg, N.C. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (and spouse Robert) Gast and Lori (and spouse Gregory) Slater, both of Warsaw; two sons, John (and spouse Maria) Dzuba, Mirana, Ariz., and Tom (and spouse Penny) Dzuba, Deltona, Fla.; seven granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Robert L. Gast; two brothers, Charles and George Dzuba; and a sister, Anna McCabe.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Phil DeVolder officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, both in Warsaw.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with a rosary service at 8 p.m.
