Stephen ‘Steve’ CartwrightStephen “Steve” Cartwright, 80, of Warsaw, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends.
Steve was born July 3, 1942, in Warsaw, the son of Ernest “Hap” and Thelma Cartwright. He was united in marriage to Dian Hoodelmier Cartwright in 1977; she survives.
He was a graduate of Warsaw Community High School in 1960 and continued on to receive a two-year degree from Indiana Tech. He worked for RR Donnelley’s, and he retired from RJ Reynolds. Dian and Steve enjoyed living in the Carolinas and they still have many friends there.
Steve loved sports, especially football. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, IU Hoosiers and he was a Chicago Cubs fan “only because he had no choice.” e also enjoyed gambling, playing poker, bowling, golf and fishing. Steve was a member of the Walnut Creek United Methodist Church.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Dian Cartwright, of Warsaw; daughters, Amy (Tim “Gooner”) Goon and Shana (David) Humphreys; grandchildren: Derek (Samantha) Goon and Sarah and Tyler Humphreys; six great-grandchildren; his great-aunt, Betty; and the Heffley and Englehart families, of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in passing by his parents; a son, Ed Starner; and several aunts and uncles.
A visitation with family and friends will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services in celebration of Steve’s life will begin at 3 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Pastor “Cowboy” Carl Adams officiating. Interment is private.
