Stephen Homer Johnson, 70, Fort Wayne, was ushered into the arms of his Savior on Feb. 14, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. He was born in Huntington on April 6, 1946, to Wayne and Mary Ahlfeld Johnson. The second of four children and the son of a minister and homemaker, he grew up in Claypool. He earned a Bachelor of Science in business at Manchester University, North Manchester. He later was awarded a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He spent years in the field of human resources and in the pastorate of several churches. He was a loving father to two children: Jeffrey (spouse Jenna) Johnson, Hershey, Pa., and Jennifer (spouse Nathan) Peterman, Bloomington; and seven grandchildren: Sullivan, Lia and Evie Johnson and Deacon, Hudson, Vivian and Maeve Peterman. Steve’s children and grandchildren were the source of his greatest pride and joy and the recipients of his undying love and affection. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Johnson, Winona Lake; his brother, Jerry (spouse Lois) Johnson, Claypool; and his two sisters, Janet (spouse Bud) Lentz, Mount Pleasant, N.C., and Barbara (spouse Mike) Wolfe, Mesa, Ariz. He was preceded by his father, Wayne Johnson. He was a gifted teacher of God’s word and shepherd of God’s people, compassionate counselor to many, ardent pipe organ enthusiast, voracious reader, avid Indy car and sprint car racing fan, and bicyclist on the Fort Wayne River Greenway. He had an endearing way of bringing joy to others through his ability to see the humorous side of life. The family will receive friends from noon until the 2 p.m. celebration of life service Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. Burial will follow the service at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. ***** Expressions of sympathy may be made as gifts to the Hannah Center, 808 N. College Ave., Bloomington, IN 47404.
