Dick McCleary, of Warsaw, displays a Sagamore of the Wabash award from Indiana for his many years of work in scouting. Since 1982, McCleary nas mentored 55 Eagle Scouts. He was nominated for the award by Jean Northenor, also pictured, who has been involved in scouting over the years. The Sagamore of the Wabash award was created during the term of Gov. Ralph Gates, who served from 1945 to 1949. The term 'sagamore' was used by the American Indian Tribes of the northeastern United States to describe a lesser chief or a great man among the tribe to whom the true chief would look for wisdom and advice. The award is highest honor the governor of Indiana bestows. It is a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service. Photo by Al Disbro
