INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Alcohol Tobacco Commission (ATC) upheld Kosciusko County ATC’s recommendation to deny Robert T. Carter’s application for a new beer retailer license at 206 W. Monroe St., Mentone.
At Tuesday’s Indiana ATC meeting, Commissioner Marjorie Magina summarized the history of the application.
Kosciusko County ATC excise officer April Tackett tabled the application in March to the April 2 meeting for further investigation. At the April 2 meeting, the Kosciusko ATC approved a favorable recommendation to the Indiana ATC for Carter’s application after all their questions were answered and there were no remonstrators against it.
However, at their April hearing the Indiana ATC remanded Carter’s application back to the county with questions and citing concerns from remonstrators.
Magina said Tuesday when the state saw the application in April, the state had received three letters from remonstrators, which the county also received. During the county’s June 4 hearing, there was also a remonstrator that spoke against Carter’s application.
On June 4, the county ATC denied the request, finding there was no need for services at the proposed location.
On Tuesday, Magina said she didn’t find any reason to overturn the county’s decision.
