SYRACUSE – Stanley Hoch Hoopingarner, 84, of Syracuse, passed away June 4, 2012, in Maples Rehabilitation, Goshen.

He was born June 8, 1927, in Elkhart, to Fred and Clela Hoopingarner. On Aug. 13, 1950, he married Catherine Louise Pinkerton, who survives.

He was a 1945 Syracuse High School graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1950 and a master’s degree in 1954, both from Ball State University. He was a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy in World War II from May 1945 until being honorably discharge Aug. 1, 1946. He was a teacher for 40 years at Syracuse, Wawasee Community, Clinton Community and Fairfield. He was a member of Kiwanis for 35 years and was a 4-H Club leader.

Also surviving are three children: Elaine (and spouse Donald) Bokart, Syracuse; Connie (and spouse Herman) Houin, Grosse Point Shores, Mich.; and Steven (and spouse Darcy) Hoopingarner, Columbia City; six grandchildren: Janice (and spouse Johnny) Davis; Brent (and spouse Jessica) Bokart; Kathryn and Patrick Houin; and Ashley and Christena Hoopengarner.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, with Ted Mahnensmith officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery with military honors.
