Posted
Stanley A. WilhelmIt is with great sadness that the family of Stanley A. Wilhelm, 77, announces his passing on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

He passed away at Largo Medical Center, Florida, from complications following open-heart surgery.

Stan was born in South Bend, to Ermel and Bertha Flagg Wilhelm, on April 17, 1944. He was a lifelong resident of Argos.

On July 18, 1965, Stan married Mary Town, his high school sweetheart. Together, they had four children: Susan Snider, of Granger; Stephen (Stephenie) Wilhelm, of Argos; Syndi (Josh) Knorr, of Traverse City, Mich.; and Sandy (Ben) Johnson, of Lakeland, Fla. Stan has 18 grandchildren: Kandyce (James) Pemberton, Garrett (Karina) Snider, Adam (Kendra) Snider, Ryan Snider, Sarah Snider, Zachariah (Sarah) Wilhelm, Josiah (Stephanie) Wilhelm, Jeremiah Wilhelm, Isaiah Wilhelm, Mariah Wilhelm, Nehemiah Wilhelm, Obadiah Wilhelm, Shaniah Wilhelm, Caleb Knorr, Charis Knorr, Christian Knorr, Norah Johnson and Britt Johnson. He also has five great-grandchildren, with another due this fall.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jerry; his brother-in-law, Sam Neidlinger; and his son-in-law, Gary Snider. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as his sister, Barbara Neidlinger, of Culver.

After graduating from Argos High School in 1962, Stan attended Purdue University. He served as a member of the Army National Guard from 1964-1970.

Stan worked at RR Donnelley & Sons in Warsaw for 43 years. Soon after retiring in 2006, Stan and Mary began dividing their time between their home in Argos and their winter home in Hernando, Fla.

His faith, his family and golf were the three passions of Stan’s life. He was a member of Riverview Community Church in Tippecanoe and also attended First Baptist Church of Inverness during the winter months. Stan trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, and while his family grieves, it is not without hope because he is rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus.

Stan was a proud husband, dad and papa. He spent years cheering for his kids from sidelines, bleachers and auditoriums and many more babysitting grandkids and helping with paper routes. One of his greatest joys was teaching golf to his children and grandchildren, as well as golfing with Mary and friends.

Stanley’s family will receive friends at Riverview Community Church, 3780 Ind. 110, Tippecanoe, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 14. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Riverview Community Church on Saturday, May 15. A graveside service will be held following the funeral service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Argos.

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
