‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive Set Saturday

Posted
Saturday will mark the 27th year of the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food drive.

On the second Saturday in May, letter carriers collect nonperishable food donations  from mailboxes, which go directly to local food pantries, according to a press release from the Kosciusko County United Way.

Letter carriers will take any nonperishable food left in a bag by mailboxes and donate them to the Salvation Army of Kosciusko County and Combined Community Services. Suggested items to donate are peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned fruit, crackers, cereal and pasta noodles. Expired food cannot be donated.

Last year, the drive collected over 80 million pounds of food, which fed an estimated 64 million people. Over the course of its 26 years, the drive has collected 1.6 billion pounds of food.
