‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Drive Nets 6 Tons

More than 6 tons of food was collected by the Warsaw post office Saturday as part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Letter carriers gathered 12,605 pounds of food, which was taken to the food pantries of Combined Community Services and the Salvation Army.

“We appreciate how the Warsaw area responded to the appeal of our letter carriers to collect food,” said United Way Director Darren Bickel in a statement. He said the CCS and Salvation Army food pantries serve hundreds of families each month.

Letter carriers distributed bags from Owen’s and cards reminding residents of the food drive the week before the event.

Warsaw Coil donated barrels to collect the food, and Creighton Brothers’ scale was used to weigh it.

The food collected Saturday was the sixth highest amount donated, according to Ken Locke with the Salvation Army.

A little over 7 tons was collected in the 2014 drive, he said.
