I am responding to the article on the front page of your paper on April 27, about the "42-year-old banned from Tippecanoe Valley High School after photographing a female student."
I am that student's pastor and I am greatly concerned about how this could happen post 9/11, with the schools monitoring who comes and who goes.
My question is, don't all vendors' employees undergo criminal background checks prior to working in a school setting? Why do we not have rules in the schools, as to no one can come in and photograph the students without parental permission? Why would a vendor need a cell phone that has the ability to take pictures? These are some questions in the future that the school needs to ask of its vendors, as well as putting this rule in place for the vendors. I see no need for a vendor to carry his phone into the school with him.
I am amazed that the law does not protect our children from those who are clearly "dirty old men."
I would hope that the parents would be outraged at this situation, first of all that the 42-year-old man was not arrested for stalking, as he obviously had a perverted agenda with taking the pictures of the lower rear parts of several females.
We see on the news, those that are pedophiles that are stalking and abducting our young people; we can't sit still another day when this is the front page story or is on the evening news. We must all speak up now!
We need to call or write our representative to get a tighter handle on those who offend, as well as those who hire them without making sure they are suitable to come into a school with our children and young people.
