Stabbing Incident Nets 18-Year Sentence

A Milford man was sentenced to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections Monday after a February stabbing incident.
Juan C. Alvarado, 26, of 312 E. 4th St., Milford, plead guilty to a Class B felony charge of aggravated battery after admitting he stabbed Ruben Enciso, Warsaw, on Feb. 20.
Original charges of attempted murder were dismissed as a part of his plea agreement.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel responded that night around 9:30 in the Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park, Warsaw, after receiving a 911 call of a potential shooting. Officers arrived and instead found Enciso with nearly 14 stab wounds. Alvarado was later taken into custody at another residence.
Alvarado told police he was intoxicated at the time of the incident and thought Enciso had been molesting his niece and had actually fathered her child. DNA test results show that Enciso was not the father.
Kosciusko County Deputy Prosecutor Steve Hearn asked Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed to hand down the maximum sentence for a Class B felony and referenced Alvarado’s taped confession in which he said Enciso needed to be “put down” and no matter his sentence, he would come back and “finish the job.”
Kosciusko County Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed ultimately agreed and sentenced Alvarado to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with a four-year suspension. Alvarado received a 456-day credit for time served but was ordered to pay the victim more than $30,000 in reparations.
Alvarado will also be deported after his sentence is served.
