Squires Get 1-0 TRC Win Over Rochester

    NORTH MANCHESTER — The Manchester baseball team got a 1-0 Three Rivers Conference win over Rochester Wednesday at home.
    Senior Scott Baker got the win for the Squires, pitching all seven innings and striking out 11.
    At the plate, Devan Knecht went 2 for 3 and drove in the winning run in the third inning.
    The win leaves Manchester with a record of 7-12 overall and 2-4 in the TRC. The Squires get back on the field today, travelling to Oak Hill for a 5 p.m. game.

Wednesday in Akron
The Tippecanoe Valley baseball team improved its overall record to 13-7 and its Three Rivers Conference mark to 4-3 with a 6-5 home win over Southwood Wednesday. In the victory, James Hackworth went 3 for 4 with and RBI, while Clayton Adamson pitched six innings, giving up five hits. Following their TRC finale, the Vikings travel to the Jay County Tournament Saturday, taking on New Haven at 11:30 a.m.

The Wawasee baseball team fell 6-5 at Concord Wednesday, dropping their Northern Lakes Conference record to 1-12. In the loss, Si Shear and John Beer each hit doubles, while Dylan Wallace had two hits. The Warriors close out their NLC schedule today when they travel to NorthWood.

Wednesday in South Whitley
Following a six-run fourth-inning that gave the Whitko baseball team a 7-4 lead, the Wildcats went on to give up eight runs over the next three innings to the Wabash Apaches. In the 12-7 Three Rivers Conference loss, Whitko’s Nathan Sherrard went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. The loss leaves Whitko with a 12-13 overall record and ends its TRC season with a 4-3 record. Whitko travels to Southern Wells Saturday for a 10 a.m. doubleheader.

Wednesday in Syracuse
The Wawasee softball team got a 4-3 10-inning home win Wednesday over Concord in Northern Lakes Conference play. Going three extra innings, Wawasee won the game when Gabi Routson drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Routson also got the win in the circle, entering the game in the seventh inning, striking out three and giving up just two hits over four innings of work. The game-winning hit was Routson’s third of the game, while Ashley Truman also had three hits, one of which was a home run. The 10-12 (4-9 NLC) Lady Warriors host NorthWood today at 5 p.m.

Southwood posted 11 hits in the win, while Valley got just two, those coming from Chrissy Hillard and Mariah Benzing. Benzing’s hit drove home Hillard and Becky Minnick, accounting for the Valley’s two runs. The Lady Vikings host Culver today at 4:30 p.m.
