FORT WAYNE — The Whitko Wildcats wrestling team advanced six wrestlers out of Saturday’s Carroll Sectional and had one champion.
With the top four finishers in each weight class, Whitko’s Tyce Johnson (106), Tom Werstler (113), Colton LeTourneau (126), Chas Busz (132) and Austin LeTourneau (138) all moved out to this Saturday’s regional back at Carroll, while Cody Bays moved out as the sectional champion at 145 pounds.
In the 145-pound championship match, Bays defeated Carroll’s Spencer Malcolm 8-7.
On his championship run, Bays earned a first-round bye, then defeated Norwell’s Kris King 18-7 and pinned Columbia City’s Alan Trabert in 1:02 before his title bout.

Saturday in Peru While Huntington North was winning the Peru Sectional with 232 points, the Manchester wrestling team finished sixth with 143 and advanced six on to this Saturday’s regional, back at Peru. Of the six that advanced to the regional by placing in the top four, Aaron Snep earned himself a championship at 220 pounds. In the championship match at 220 pounds, Snep defeated Huntington North’s Zach Pavey. Other wrestlers to advance out of the sectional were Tristin Burnette (106), Clayton Moore (120), Brennan France (132), Payton Sorg (145) and Neil Snep (182).
