Spooktacular Helps Kick Off The Halloween Fun In KosciuskoWitches, Minions, the undead and Scooby Doo formed some long lines in downtown Warsaw for the annual Spooktacular Friday.
Thousands of costumed children – and often costumed parents – made their way from stop to stop for everything from chocolate to frisbees. Dozens of the spooky, funny and adorable also signed up for the costume judging contest, which was scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m.
The Spooktacular is sponsored by the Warsaw Community Development Corp., city of Warsaw, Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club and Miller’s Merry Manor.
Meanwhile, at the same time in the Gordon Health and Wellness Center, Grace College & Seminary offered its 30th annual FunFest, a free Halloween alternative. The event was organized by Grace student volunteers. Along with food and candy, bouncy houses and games were offered.
But if your little devils and angels missed those events, there’s plenty more coming.
Wagon Wheel Jr. will present the musical of “Sleepy Hollow” at 2 p.m. today and Sunday, with open houses at 12:30 p.m.
The “Not-So-Haunted House” is free with the purchase of a $12 show ticket.
Soul Takers Acres haunted attraction, a fundraiser for the county fair, continues from 8 to 11 p.m. tonight. The haunted house is at 1400 E. Smith St., Warsaw, and tickets are $15. More information can be found online at www.soultakersacres.com.
The Silver Lake Lions Club is having its Halloween party starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The festivities will be held in the Silver Lake Conservation building at the corner of Elm and Sycamore streets.
There will be cash prizes for best costumes, and refreshments will be served.
Cash prizes for children are $25 for first place; $20, second place; $17, third place; $15, fourth place; $13, fifth place; $11, sixth place; $9, seventh place; and $7 for eighth place.
For adults, cash prizes are $25 for first place and $20 for second place.
A prize of $10 will be given to the youngest and oldest in costume.
North Webster Boy Scout Troop 726 and the North Webster Lions Club continues its 11th annual Amazing Haunted House. At the North Webster Festival Grounds, the haunted house will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. tonight. Cost is $5 per person to get in. Proceeds will go to the North Webster Lions Club and Troop 726.
Trick-or-treat hours on Thursday are:
• Atwood, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Otterbein United Methodist Church also will be hosting a truck-or-treat that night.
• Bourbon, 5 to 7 p.m. Several local churches will hold “truck-or-treat” at the Triton Jr.-Sr. High School parking lot.
• Claypool, 5 to 7:30 p.m. “trunk-or-treating” downtown Main Street. Events include a bike giveaway, coffee and hot chocolate, popcorn, games, chilli dogs and candy. Sponsored by Someplace Else Salon, Claypool School, Claypool Lions Club, Claypool police and fire departments and Claypool United Methodist Church.
• Etna Green, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
• Leesburg, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
• Mentone, downtown merchants will be open for trick-or-treat from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Costume judging will be at the Mentone School at 7:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be given by the Mentone Chamber of Commerce in nine categories. All kids will receive candy provided by Carol Ousley REMAX Realty.
The Mentone United Methodist Church will have hot dogs and goodies in the Church Fellowship Hall. The First Baptist Church will have trunk-or-treat in their parking lot.
The Mentone Fire Department will have cider and doughnuts at the fire station.
• Milford, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Nappanee, 5 to 7 p.m. The Harvest Party is 6:30 to 8 p.m. under the open air pavilion.
