Ice sculptures will be on display in downtown Warsaw during the annual First Friday Fire and Ice Festival Feb. 1-2. Sponsors are needed for the ice sculptures. A 300-pound block of ice is $175, a block with fire is $195, and a 600-pound block of ice is $275. There are 14 sculptures so far for this year and there were 54 sculptures last year, according to Paula Bowman, downtown events coordinator. There were 10 ice sculptures with fire last year, and only one sculpture with fire this year so far. The goal is to have six ice sculptures with fire, Bowman said. Michiana Ice Carvers, a group of ice carvers from northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan, will be in Warsaw to demonstrate their craft and educate the public about the art of ice carving. To be a sponsor, people can visit the Warsaw Community Development Corp. website at warsawcdc.org to obtain an ice sculpture sponsorship form. Bowman said sponsors can choose the sculpture carving. Their business logo advertising their business can be carved onto the sculpture. During the First Friday Feb. 1, fire dancers from Pyrotation Nation will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the center stage on Buffalo Street. The performance will include fire spinners and staff who perform fire-filled dance shows. The dancers use different styles of spinning like nunchucks, hoops and fire spitting. People with questions about being an ice sculpture sponsor can call Bowman at 574-376-0233.
