Sponsors are needed for the First Friday “Fire and Ice” Festival Feb. 3 in downtown Warsaw. The deadline to register to sponsor an ice carving is Jan. 13. There were 42 sponsors who participated in last year’s event, according to Keith Reinholt, event organizer. Reinholt said there are approximately 10 ice sculpture sponsors so far for this year’s event. Michiana Ice Carvers Association will again complete the ice carvings that will be carved on the morning of Feb. 3. “Of all the First Friday events, the ice carvings are what we received the most positive comments from,” Reinholt said. Reinholt said the association does quality ice carving work. This is the second year for the event. Sponsors will be allowed to choose their own carving to have sculpted, or allow the carver to choose the sculpture. Sponsors should make checks payable to Warsaw Community Development Corp. and mail to WCDC, P.O. Box 1223, Warsaw, IN 46581. The cost for a 300-pound ice block is $175, 300- pound block with fire is $195; 600-pound block of ice is $260; and $25 to $100 for money toward a group sculpture.
