CLAYPOOL – Spencer Bartlett was voted in as the new Clay Township trustee Tuesday during a Republican caucus at the Claypool Lions Building.
The caucus was called by Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Mike Ragan after the resignation of Stephanie Stutzman due to personal reasons. Her resignation was effective Dec. 31.
Cheryl Thompson also filed for the position.
Both candidates had three minutes to speak before Republican Precinct committee voted.
Bartlett said he has been a county resident since 2003 and a township resident since 2016. He is the father of four children, who were born and raised in Kosciusko County. His family’s experience in home schooling has given him an appreciation for the importance of local support, constitutional awareness and community involvement.
Barlett said he has a background in IT software consulting and related financial responsibilities.
He said he looked forward to bringing his commitment of service and strong values to the trustee position, working collaboratively to preserve the township’s character and promoting a thriving environment for all families. He noted his appreciation to the township’s volunteer fire department and their response to an electrical fire in Barlett’s barn in 2023.
He said he viewed as serving as trustee as a way to demonstrate gratitude and to give back to the community, as well as supporting the local first responders and township officials “who ensure our community remains a safe and welcoming place to live.” As Clay Township trustee, he said he’d prioritize transparency, accountability and fiscal responsibility.
