Special Olympic Athletes Compete In TournamentThe Special Olympics Indiana Kosciusko County athletes competed in the Area 5 sectional basketball tournament on March 16 at the Logansport High School, with two Kosciusko County athletes, Chris Cole and Tim Hunt, carrying the torch for the opening ceremony.
The Kosciusko County Panthers basketball team lost to the Tippy Hornets of Tippecanoe County, 44-16 in a single-elimination format.  
Panther coach Ben Sauers stated that the team put up a tough fight but Tippy Hornets had a great team effort in the win.
Along with the game, a skills event saw all local athletes placing in the tournament.  
The following are the results by division competition: Division 3 – James Mornout (1st), J.D. Miller (3rd); Division 4 – Sandy Hunter (1st), Sandy Bibler (2nd), Jim Nuell (3rd); Division 5 – Michelle Ousley (2nd), Sharon Singleton (4th); Division 6 – Mary Bicknell (3rd).
Kosciusko County Special Olympics Director Becky Walls stated that all the athletes have worked hard this winter for basketball.  
As the winter sports draw to a close, spring sports including track & field and bocce will be starting in April.  
The Special Olympics Indiana Kosciusko County 40th anniversary celebration will be Sunday, April 21 at the Center Lake Pavilion from 1 to 5 p.m. Entertainment and food will be available.
