Spartan Kickers Beat Lancers In Overtime

Posted

WINONA LAKE - Sophomore Eve Arthur scored two goals for the Grace women's soccer team, but Manchester College won in overtime 3-2 Wednesday at Miller Field.

Manchester scored twice in the first half to go ahead 2-0 on goals from Robin Kilgore and Tonja Miller. The Spartans led 2-0 at the half.

The score remained 2-0 until 13:05 in the game when Arthur scored the Lancers' first goal. She then tied the game with 1:18 left in regulation. Almost four minutes into the extra period, Kilgore scored to give the Spartans the 3-2 win.

The Lancers outshot the Spartans 17-10 in the game.

"We looked pretty strong today," Grace coach Mark Sproul said. "We played a strong Division III team and took them to overtime. We came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game. I thought the girls showed a lot of maturity and played well as a team.

"This is one game that if someone just looks at the score, it won't tell the story," he said. "We played probably 2/3 of the game on their side of the field."

The Lancers (0-1) host Cornerstone Saturday at 1 p.m. Manchester (1-0) hosts Adrian Saturday.
