Space Dragon Is Top Band

Space Dragon Is Top BandWeaving a story about fighting dragons into their performance Thursday night, the band Space Dragon won first place in the Warsaw Community High School Battle of the Bands.

The four-member band includes Hugh Freeman on guitar, Quinton Bolduc on guitar and vocals, Thomas Murphy on drums and Josh Savage on keyboard and vocals. Space Dragon received $500 for the first-place win.

Murphy also won best instrumental performance and an additional $50. While best band was determined by audience vote, WRSW's Ryan Wood chose the best instrumental performance.

Taking second place and winning $200 was the heavy hardcore five-member band Cryptogenic. Murphy was a member of that band, too.

The Battle of the Bands started with a set from Vert. The three-member band played a pop-punk style, including covers of songs by Blink-182 and Lady Gaga.

After Cryptogenic played second, 2009 champions Beyond the Puppet performed. They kicked off their set with their own rendition of Cher's "Believe" before going more hard rock. Their last song was a new original song called "Unbroken".

Space Dragon performed fourth, including a funked-up version of the Backstreet Boys' song "Larger than Life".

The battle ended with the four-member band Just Drive.
