Sowers Seeks District 5 City Council Seat, Knepper Files For Silver Lake Council

Carl Sowers has filed for the District 5 city council seat, and Gary Knepper has filed for the Silver Lake Town Council seat.
Bruce Woodward previously filed for the city council seat on Monday. The deadline to file a declaration of candidacy for the city council seat with Randy Girod, Kosciusko County GOP chair, is Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
Woodward previously ran for city council in 1999, and was defeated by Jeff Grose, and also ran in 2003 and was defeated by Bill Rhoades.
Sowers also ran for the District 5 seat in 2003, when Rhoades received the most votes.
Interested eligible candidates must be registered voters of District 5.
A caucus will be Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. at city hall for the city council seat.
The district 5 seat is currently held by Dan Hampton, who was elected in the Nov. 2 election as prosecuting attorney. Hampton will continue to carry out his duties on the council until Dec. 31.
Precinct committee members Warren Tatter, Josh Spangle, Christy Polk and Jeremiah Heierman will select the person to fill the city council seat.
For the Silver Lake caucus, Knepper is the only candidate to file as of press time this morning.
Former councilman Ron Jones resigned from the Silver Lake seat effective Dec. 1.
The Silver Lake caucus will be Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at Silver Lake town hall.
The deadline for filing a declaration of candidacy for the Silver Lake seat is Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
Applications are also being sought for the Mentone Town Council caucus that is Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. The deadline for filing for the Mentone caucus is Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.
Interested eligible candidates must file a declaration of candidacy form with Girod.
The forms are available at the Kosciusko County Clerk's office, 121 N. Lake St.
