South Whitley Home Destroyed In Friday Fire

Posted

SOUTH WHITLEY – A house south of Sidney is a total loss following a structure fire.
At 1:04 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, Sidney Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire at 11331 S. 700E, South Whitley.
Upon arriving to the scene, Sidney Fire Department found a house fully engulfed in flames. Mutual aid was requested, and fire crews from Pierceton Fire Rescue, Cleveland Township Volunteer Fire Department, Chester Township Fire Rescue, North Manchester Fire Department and Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded. Parkview EMS was on scene for medical stand-by.
Fire crews were on scene for over five hours battling the blaze and overhauling hotspots. The homeowners were able to get out, and no one was injured.
While it is not known what had started the fire, firefighters believed the fire started in an RV parked beside the garage, and the wind took it into the structure.
Sidney Fire Department gave a big thanks to one of the fireman’s wives for bringing coffee and water early on during the run; the American Red Cross, who responded with refreshments for all the crews; and everyone that helped them Friday morning.
