Local dark metal quartet Soulfyre won the Fort Wayne Musical Warfare competition.
Musical Warfare is a battle of the bands that is judged on performance, stage presence, vocals, songwriting, crowd response, originality, overall impression and marketability.
First place gained Soulfyre 40 hours of studio time with The Kingdom Studios for their newest as-yet-to-be-titled CD, which will be released this fall. They also received a three-hour photo shoot with Ken Reeves Photography, and the first 250 CDs of their next album printed by Ahl Media.
Seventeen bands participated, and there were five rounds of eliminations. One band from each round advanced to the final show, which was held at Four D's in Fort Wayne on May 19. All musical genres were played, ranging from a classic rock sound to straight-up heavy metal.
With local dates all summer long promoting their self-titled debut CD, Soulfyre will be performing at the Legendary Champs Rock Room in Chicago on June 9 with national recording artist Absence of Concern. For more show dates and information, visit their Web site at www.soulfyre.com
