Souder, Mishler, Ruppel Talk About Their Wins

Third District Congressman Mark Souder, District 9 State Sen. Ryan Mishler. Bill Ruppel were re-elected during Tuesday's general election.

Souder, a Republican, made a stop at the Kosciusko County Justice Building Tuesday night and discussed his win.Souder defeated Democrat Michael Montagano. It will be Souder's eighth term for serving. Souder serves Kosciusko, DeKalb, Allen, Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble, Whitley and Steuben counties.

"I'm excited to have won and thrilled with the margin. Until you've been through a voting battle you don't know how much your work is valued, and Kosciusko County has been a friend from the beginning," Souder said.

He said he is committed to keeping the orthopaedic industry thriving in Kosciusko County and a reasonable cash flow in businesses.

He said he will continue to support funding for Grace College and Ivy Tech Community College.

"Job creation is critical, and I think it is important to educate students to correctly prepare them," Souder said.

Mishler, a Republican, was elected to a second term, defeating Democrat Mike Settles.

Mishler represents portions of Kosciusko, Marshall, St. Joseph and Elkhart counties.

"It's a relief to have won and I had confidence in my constituents, and I thank those who voted for me," Mishler said.

Republican State Sen. District 13 Marlin Stutzman defeated Democrat Fred Demske.

Stutzman served three terms in the House of Representatives and this will be his first term serving in the senate. The district includes LaGrange and portions of DeKalb, Steuben, Noble and Kosciusko counties.

"It's exciting to have won, and I am thrilled voters put their trust in me and I am ready to go to work to do things for this state," Stutzman said.

District 18 State Sen. Randy Head defeated Democrat Linda Klinck.

Head represents Kosciusko, Fulton, Pulaski, Cass, Miami and Wabash counties. Head said he has served 14 years as a deputy prosecuting attorney and will replace Tom Weatherwax.

"It's surreal to have won. Politics is a team sport and I had awesome people on my team including a lot of help from Kosciusko County Republicans like Avis Gunter and Kip Tom," Head said.

District 22 Republican State Rep. Bill Ruppel was elected to a ninth term. Ruppel represents Wabash and the eastern portion of Kosciusko County.

"I thank the poll workers and voters, and I will continue to work to do what is best for Indiana," Ruppel said.
