INDIANAPOLIS – Nick Sommers, Warsaw, participated in an opportunity to conduct undergraduate research during summer 2011. Sommers’ project, titled “Beaver Food Preference Based on Buffet-Style Feeding Trials”, was done as part of Marian University’s Institute for Green and Sustainable Science in the School of Mathematics and Sciences. The institute is a seven-week research-based summer program hosted by Marian University Indianapolis that focuses on issues related to energy sustainability, green chemistry and sustainability ecology. Faculty members Dr. Carl Lecher, Dr. Roderick Macrae and Dr. Sara O’Brien lead lectures and guide the students in literature research, discussion leadership, data mining and calculations. Sommers is majoring in biology and expects to graduate in 2012.
