The Kosciusko County Solid Waste District held its November meeting a day early Monday.
Typically, the board meets after the Kosciusko County Commissioners. With today’s elections, the meeting was moved up a day.
The board approved a contract pending some changes to have DST out of Silver Lake do some renovation work to the recycling depot at 220 S. Union St., Warsaw.
The project will be $19,760 and help the building be more energy efficient, improve the building’s sustainability and improve its aesthetics.
Director Sue Studebaker told the board that she is gearing up for America Recycles Day Saturday. It’s scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The recycling depot will accept all paints, stains and sealers for free Saturday.
All electronics will be accepted at a reduced rate of 5 cents per pound. All collections on Saturday are for residential only. Due to the high volume, they will not be collecting any household chemicals.
There will be free doughnuts and cider in the morning, and free ice cream beginning at 11 a.m.
The theme of Saturday is “Being a Recycling Super Hero.” Children who come dressed as super heroes get prizes.
Also all items in the eco store are 15 percent off.
