Sock Drive Begins MondayStarting Monday, people can donate socks to the Sock-It-To-Them Drive to give socks to area individuals and families that need them.
The Salvation Army in cooperation with Shoe Sensation in Warsaw will hold the Sock-It-To-Them Drive from Monday to Feb. 1.
Socks may be purchased at Shoe Sensation, 2884 Frontage Road, Warsaw, said Envoy Ken Locke of The Salvation Army. Socks may also be donated by dropping them off at Shoe Sensation. When buying socks at the store, there is a container next to the registers with The Salvation Army on it the socks will go into.
The socks will be given to families and individuals in Kosciusko County, he said. They are to support families through the Angel of Hope program, which helps people in the area after a disaster like a fire with help, or the School Worx program that provides shoes and clothing to students in need. Locke said The Salvation Army has received some indicators from schools that socks are needed for some students from lower-income families. Locke said he sees a lot of single-parent families that need help.
Locke said Friday Shoe Sensation already has things set up and there have been people donating socks.
It is the first time The Salvation Army and Shoe Sensation has done the Sock-It-To-Them Drive. Locke said The Salvation Army has worked with Shoe Sensation before on the School Worx program, but the Sock-It-To-Them Drive is a little different. He said they’re looking for another way to help the community.
“It’s a really simple, a real tangible way to help. That’s for sure,” he said.
Locke said the drive will help boost the amount of items The Salvation Army can give to individuals and families who need help.
