Editor, Times-Union: Recently on 9/16 I read a letter in the Wall Street Journal from a local Winona Lake resident. It was a response to an article about a new book 'The Half Has Never Been Told" which I must admit I haven't read. However the gist of the letter was to attack the premise of the plantation system in the South being capitalist in nature. I was a bit shocked at such a defense of plutocracy. If the plantation system was not a capitalist system can you with tongue in cheek call the system free enterprise? Much of the plantation profits were deposited into northern banks. That wealth became a basis for some of the biggest capitalist corporations and bank monopolies in the North. As for me I would have resisted even one slave ship reaching American shores. I guess that makes me a socialist. Also, my friend Mr. Plew and I are working feverishly on my upcoming trip to Israel. Tom Metzger Warsaw, via email
